As a new mom, quick trips to the grocery store, mall or post office aren’t so quick these days. Believe me I am not complaining and I love every single minute that I am so blessed to share with my new sidekick/co-pilot even if it means it’s going to take a half an hour extra, at least, to run to the cleaners to pick up my sweater. You have to get him dressed and ready for the big world out there, pack up the diaper bag, making sure you have diapers, wipes, a change of clothes and whatever else you may need in case of the dreaded diaper blowout on aisle 5. With you’re diaper bag packed and over your shoulder, baby in your arms as well as his favorite stuffed giraffe, and maybe even a blanket you head for the car. Half the time you make it there to strap him into his little car seat, while the other half you head back to the changing table because you felt a little heat from the bottom of your little angel. Finally the diaper is changed and you fill up your arms with all the gear necessary to leave the comforts of your home with a newborn, again, and head to the car. Twenty minutes have past and you’re just hoping you can make it there and back within the hour because junior is already getting sleepy and will be in major need of a nap and feeding very soon.
Now I am a woman who has been carrying a purse with me for as long as I can remember; before I reached the two digits because I wanted to be just like my mother. I’ve tried to change that over the years, by carrying my wallet on me, in coat pockets, even letting my significant other carry my id and credit card for me (men always have more room in their wallets and their jeans) but I never felt comfortable with it. I need that purse. I feel secure with that purse. I know everything I need is in that purse, and even though it might take me twenty minutes to find what I’m looking for in that purse, I know it’s there, safe and secure in one of the many nooks and crannies.
A couple months before my son was born, my husband came home from a music festival in San Francisco with the Runnur as a gift for me as well as one for himself. He explained it to me, showed me all the nifty pockets and what each one was for and I was really impressed with it. However impressed, I really did think to myself, I probably wouldn’t use it, for reasons mentioned above. My husband, knowing me oh so very well, went on to say that he knows I probably won’t use it right now, but thinks it will come in handy once the baby was born. I smiled and said, “sure thing” and put it in my closet.
Fast forward to the end of September. I was recovering from a C-section and starting to get back to my daily routine and new life as a parent. As I mentioned before, trying to do anything involving leaving the house involves both arms full of stuff for the baby and as a matter of fact, one of those arms is carrying that baby. I quickly discovered that carrying my purse, along with everything else, was not working. Who wants to carry another bag when you’ve already got one? I decided to give the Runnur a shot and it has been my “purse” and life organizer ever since.
What I love first and foremost about my Runnur is that it is functional with one hand. I can throw it over my shoulder on my way out the door, unzip the wallet to grab my credit card for groceries, and find my phone as well as my keys instantly because they’re always in their designated spots, secure and protected, all the while holding on to a 3 month old who tends to thrust his head back on a moments notice for no reason. Carrying the Runnur allows me to focus on my son and I don’t waste precious time (each minute really does become precious!) fumbling for my keys. The obvious reason I carry the Runnur is because it’s not a bag. It’s sleek design rests really comfortably on my body and sometimes I forget I’m even wearing it. Every day I walk my son in his stroller rocking my Runnur whether I need all it’s contents or not because it doesn’t feel like I’m carrying an extra “thing” on me and when women comment to me about what a cool “thing” my Runnur is (and this happens almost daily!), it usually takes me a second to figure out what they’re talking about.
I’m not quite sure if the Runnur was designed with mothers in mind, but what I do know is it really is a functional and cool accessory for this mom. Perhaps that back lower pocket really wasn’t intended for your water bottle considering it fits my sons bottle so perfectly!
